I will have to do lots of research before staying at another Hotel there. The traffic is horrible bumper to bumper and I’m guessing like many areas all over the world the roads need widening or better access roads that are just not available, not enough room for all the cars. It’s definitely booming in Mazatlan which I’m happy to see but we will never stay at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan again. Apparently a toll road was opened not long ago from Durango to Mazatlan causing a lot of congestion everywhere since what took 6 hrs drive is now only 2 hrs. I’m happy for them to have work but it was hard to enjoy the Hotel with such crowding. The staff and servers are wonderful and most are always working very hard. So that was a big awakening since I couldn’t understand at first why there were so many constant busloads of people coming in everyday, the Hotel owners with their greed are allowing anyone to come and use the facilities if they pay for a day pass so all the pools are crowded and full with screaming and splashing along with limited Palapa seats or lounges. They could only stay a couple hours as they work so it just wasn’t worth paying. They were not allowed in unless they paid a day pass for 300 pesos per person, they couldn’t even visit in our room and the guards were diligent in making sure you had a bracelet on to prove you have paid. We normally would invite a few maybe four family members that live there to visit one day and happily pay for all their food and drinks from the Hotel to patronize the Hotel and servers. Good luck getting a Palapa unless you go down at 6:30 am to get a spot. The employees try so hard but couldn’t keep up, even the elevators have lots of water and sand on the floor. It was always wet with ocean water, sand, or pool water everywhere. There were so many hordes of people you were constantly dodging them while walking. The Smoked Marlin in the tacos was almost non existent with mostly onion and tomato only with a little cheese. The Nachos had awful looking meet and a few frijoles with little cheese with dark old stale tortillas. No more shrimp Louie, didn’t see a Mexican combo plate and wouldn’t get it if I’d seen it. The music with three bands in competition on the beach was really loud with huge speakers being wheeled around.įirst the food is terrible it used to be good our favorites were the Shrimp Louie, Mexican combo plate, Marlin tacos, and Nachos. I’d prefer instant Nestle coffee which I actually like. The buffet was just okay, terrible acidic coffee and lots of people and long lines. Of course the prices have all gone up so your getting less but paying more. The room was beautiful but no more microwave or coffee maker in the Villa rooms, and they are not cheap. It is not the charming Hotel it used to be. My mother came I believe in 1977 or earlier and our family has been coming here since 1979. My daughter and I stayed for 10 days and it was a huge disappointment I’m so sorry to say.
